About Blair

A bit about me …

calgary_marriage_commissioner002001I have a variety of both professional and personal experiences to enrich my role of marriage commissioner.  In the 1970s and 80s I studied theatre arts specifically for the purpose of developing my ability to create and officiate at meaningful ceremonies and rituals.  Over the past 25 years I have worked in a variety of not-for-profit settings as an individual, couple & family counsellor and group facilitator. Today, I continue to have a small coaching practice.

I have also facilitated literally hundreds of presentations, workshops and retreats on a variety of topics, and continue to do so.

I have also co-authored and facilitated the same-sex marriage preparation seminar offered through the Calgary Presbytery of the United Church of Canada.

After formally studying Hawaiian Shamanism with Serge Kahili King, Ph.D., through Aloha International, www.huna.org., and was ordained as a Hawaiian Shaman, or “Alakai” with Aloha International in November of 2011. One of the obligations or tasks of a Hawaiian Shaman is to create rituals appropriate to the time and context of the celebration. And this fits in perfectly with the task of a marriage commissioner.
